Who teaches

The instructors

The dojo is led by Pablo Martín, 4th dan Aikikai and shidōin, who founded the association in 2008. The aikido team is eight instructors holding Aikikai dan grades, and they are the same people who teach in Barcelona and in Sant Adrià de Besòs. All of them follow the line of the Aikikai Hombu Dojo in Tokyo. Iaijutsu, judo and karate have instructors of their own.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need previous experience?

No. Someone starting out trains alongside someone with years behind them, and there is no competition in aikido, so nobody is measuring themselves against you.

Do I have to buy a keikogi to start?

No. Comfortable long-sleeved clothes and long trousers are enough for the first classes. If you then enrol by the quarter, half-year or year, the dojo provides the keikogi.

Can I try before signing up?

Yes: two trial classes, and registration costs nothing. Write to us and we will tell you which day to come.

How much does it cost?

35 € a month for adults and 25 € for under-12s, with discounts by the quarter, half-year and year and a family rate. The full detail is on the fees page.

What language are the classes in?

In Spanish and Catalan, and in English whenever it is needed. The terminology is Japanese, as in any dojo, and you pick it up as you go.

How is it different from the other spaces?

Badalona is the dojo: a space given over entirely to martial arts, open Monday to Saturday and with all four disciplines. The gradings, the seminars and the masterclasses happen here. Barcelona and Sant Adrià de Besòs have aikido two days a week, with the same programme.
